I put off joining forever, but I finally tried it out, and I really like it. WikiTree is not for everyone; it is a collaborative tree, similar to the Family Tree on Family Search. You don’’t HAVE a tree, but contribute to a universal tree. Changes and corrections can be made to the tree at anytime. What I like about the WikiTree is that they ask you their Honor Code before you can make changes.
I’ve been spending time reading through the guidelines and adding a few profiles to the Tree. They do ask that you include sources, so as I add a profile, I’ve been taking time to clean up my sources—to verify where I got my information and to format the sources in a somewhat uniform manner. I’ll never get mine formatted up Elizabeth Shown Mills' Evidence Explained style, but at least I think for the most part, someone could look at my source on WikiTree and retrieve the document for themselves! I'll be writing more about my WikiTree project in the coming weeks.
I’ve made progress in another way, too. I’ve connected with some 3rd cousins working on the same line. I knew there were other descendants out there, but didn’t know who they were or where they were. They stumbled upon the blog and found me! Now the fun starts!
